Description: The patella, also known as the kneecap, is a flat, triangular bone located at the front of the knee joint. It is the largest sesamoid bone in the body, embedded within the tendon of the quadriceps femoris muscle, and it plays a crucial role in protecting the anterior aspect of the knee joint and enhancing the leverage of the quadriceps tendon during leg extension.
